Shakeology is a Better Product, but at 4x the Cost. How much do you want to spend?
Time to face off the Herbalife weight loss shakes with the ones from Shakeology! These are two of the more popular players within the weight loss shake industry, and both have their fair share of supporters. Both are fairly seasoned within the industry, and have thousands of associates selling their products.
1) Huge Pricing Difference – Herbalife is Much More Affordable
The first major thing that we noticed was the price! Shakeology shakes come in at almost 4 times as much as the Herbalife ones, which makes a HUGE difference in the long run. Shakeology was came in at $4.33 per shake, where Herbalife was only $1.13. That difference really adds up fast in the long run, and you can end up purchasing 2 or 3 times as much product, and still be less in the long run.
2) Shakeology is Better Nutritionally
All across the nutrition board, Shakeology seems to come out ahead. With appearing more high quality ingredients, these shakes have significantly higher macro nutrients, micro nutrients, and more. They should pack a higher punch for being such a higher price too!
Just look down the macronutrients to see the biggest differences between the two – 50 more calories, 3g less sugar, and 8 grams more protein per serving than the Herbalife shakes.
When you are looking at weight loss shakes, it’s important to understand that these things need to sustain you for longer periods of time, so more calories and protein are good things. The cheaper components will be less filling, and may cause you to snack and binge more.
3) Shakeology has Higher Quality Ingredients
There are two major areas that stick out to us when it comes to comparing the ingredients of these two shakes – source of fat and source of protein.
Source of Protein
The major source of protein for the Herbalife shakes is soy, where whey and pea proteins fill the Shakeology versions. Now this may not seem like a big difference, but the whey proteins are traditionally a much higher quality protein source overall, and has less adverse effects on the body. You will have to do your own research on protein sources and how that effects your body, but a whey protein is usually higher quality than soy.
Source of Fat
The other major area that we noticed was the source of fats that these two shakes had. Now don’t think that ‘fats’ are necessarily a bad thing, because they have been very demonized in the past few years as horrible for you. But the opposite is usually true – fats are completely necessary for body function, and even though come in at a higher calorie-per-gram count, they are necessary in our diet.
But the one thing you should consider is the types and sources of the fat you consume. The Shakeology shakes have all of their fat coming from the whey proteins that they are packed with, while the Herbalife shakes have canola oil and medium-chain triglycerides, which generally are not the best for you.
Conclusion – How much do you want to pay?
In conclusion, it’s hard to say which product out of these two is the best. It’s like comparing a Mercedes sedan with a Kia – they are just two completely different classes of products, and made for two different segments of the market. The Shakeology has higher quality ingredient and more nutrition, but also are about 4x the price of the lower quality, cheaper-priced Herbalife shakes.
So it really comes down to how much you want to / are willing to spend on these shakes. We’ll let you be the judge on that one!
